Berlin – A lawyer tasked with investigating allegations of abuse at a Catholic children’s choir in southern Germany says he has documented 231 allegations ranging from beatings to rape.

Ulrich Weber says the incidents include 50 plausible cases of sexual abuse. The alleged abuses took place at the Regensburger Domspatzen boys’ choir and two associated boarding schools between 1953 and 1992.

Most have passed the statute of limitations for criminal complaints.Weber, who was asked to investigate the allegations by the diocese of Regensburg, said on Friday that former Domspatzen conductor Georg Ratzinger must have known of at least some of the abuses.

Ratzinger is the older brother of Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI.
