Pietermaritzburg – A 53-year-old farmer was stabbed and shot dead during an attack on Friday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.His wife sustained stab wounds during the attack on their farm, Glower Oer, near Thornville, around 02:00, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said.

The couple, Edwin and Jean Mapstone, were robbed of several firearms. The KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union (Kwanalu) condemned the attack. “Our deepest condolences go to the family and friends of Edwin and Jean,” said CEO Sandy la Marque.

Kwanalu members were concerned about the senseless violence of the attack and called for justice to be done. “An incident of this nature is a harsh reminder of the reality of our times. We cannot stress enough, to our farmers, the importance of staying vigilant and ensuring all possible security measures are in place,” La Marque said.Police appealed to anyone with information about the attack to contact their local police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
