Durban – KwaZulu-Natal police remain concerned with the killing of community leaders following the fatal shooting of former ward councillor Khayelihle Mgcwaba.

“We remain concerned with the killings of community leaders in our province especially by individuals close to them. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those involved are prosecuted for their crime,” KZN Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa said on Wednesday.

Mgcwaba was shot dead on May 9 while at his house in Machunwini area, Umzimkhulu. Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the assailants entered his house and shot him.

“He was declared dead at the scene. A case of murder was opened at Ibisi police station for further investigation. “His wife and two accomplices were arrested on Sunday following police investigation, Gwala said.

Last month Richmond Municipality Deputy Mayor Thandazile Phoswa was shot in the head. Richmond Municipal Manager Sibusiso Sithole was gunned down by two unknown men the month before.
