In a distant land, a wealthy man had two sons. The younger son, restless and eager for independence, approached his father and requested his share of the inheritance. The father, with a heavy heart, divided his estate between his two sons.
The younger son set off to explore the world, seeking adventure and pleasure. He squandered his inheritance on wild living, indulging in excess and waywardness. However, as time passed, a severe famine struck the land, and the young man found himself impoverished and desperate.
Haunted by hunger and longing for home, he realized his folly. He resolved to return to his father, not as a son deserving of honor, but as a humble servant. He rehearsed the words he would speak, hoping for forgiveness and mercy.
While the son was still far off, his father caught sight of him. Filled with compassion and love, the father ran to embrace his wayward child. Overwhelmed by his father’s warm reception, the son confessed his mistakes and expressed his desire to be treated as a servant.
But the father, without hesitation, restored his son’s status as a beloved child. He ordered the finest robe to be placed upon him, a ring on his finger, and sandals on his feet. A celebration ensued, for the son who was once lost had been found.
Meanwhile, the elder son, who had remained faithfully by his father’s side, grew resentful and angry upon hearing of the extravagant welcome given to his wayward sibling. He felt overlooked and unappreciated, unable to comprehend his father’s boundless love and forgiveness.
The father, with tenderness, approached the elder son and reminded him of the depth of his love. He explained, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But it was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this brother of yours was dead and is alive; he was lost and is found.”
The parable of the Prodigal Son illustrates the immeasurable love and forgiveness of our Heavenly Father. It reveals His unwavering desire to reconcile with those who have strayed, offering them a second chance, regardless of their past transgressions.

Likewise, the elder son’s reaction reflects the danger of self-righteousness and the inability to comprehend the depth of God’s grace. It serves as a cautionary tale, urging us to guard against judgment and to embrace the joy of reconciliation.
